Das Past Perfect Continuous

Du verwendest das Past Perfect Continuous um auszudrücken, dass die Handlung vor einem  bestimmten Zeitpunkt in der Vergangenheit begonnen hatte und zu diesem Punkt noch nicht beendet war.

I had been learning
He had been playing

Bildung

Subjekt + "had" + "been" + Verb-ing

I had been reading for an hour

Verneinungen (Negative Forms)

Verneinungen im Past Perfect Continuous werden mit dem Wort "not" gebildet.

I had not been playing
you had not been playing

Beim Sprechen verwenden wir Abkürzungen - "not" wird zu "n't".

I hadn't been playing
you hadn't been playing

Verwendung (Use)

Du verwendest das Past Perfect Continuous, um über Folgendes zu sprechen:

  • eine Handlung die in der Vergangenheit vor einen anderen Handlung begonnen hatte und noch andauerte.

I had been waiting for him for 40 minutes before he arrived.

  • mit FOR und SINCE

She had been learning English for eight years before she went to England.

  • mit den Ausdrücken "all day", "all morning". Eine Handlung ohne Unterbrechung stattfand.

I had been working all morning.

 

 

Stative Verbs

Es gibt so genannte Stative Verbs (state=Zustand) -  Zustandsverben, die normalerweise keine Progressive Form haben. Diese Verben beschreiben oft Zustände, Gedankn, oder Gefühle, die einige Zeit andauern.

I had known him
I had been knowing him
