Das Past Perfect

Wir verwenden das Past Perfect im Englischen nicht oft, aber es klingt sehr gut, wenn du es richtig verwenden kannst.

Das Past Perfect wird verwendet um auszudrücken, dass etwas vor anderen Ereignissen in der Vergangenheit passiert ist.

I had finished my homework BEFORE I went shopping.
BEFORE I went shopping, I had finished my homework.
AFTER I had finished my homework, I went shopping.

Bildung

had + Past Participle (= 3. Form des Verbes)

Bei regelmäßigen Verben musst du an das Verb nur ein -ed anhängen (wie im Past Simple).

work - worked
finish - finished
play - played

Verwendung (Use)

Wann verwendest du das Past Perfect?

Das Past Perfect ist die Vorvergangenheit, die deutsche Entsprechung ist das Plusquamperfekt (Ich hatte gesehen). Wenn du im Simple Past berichtest und beschreiben möchtest, dass etwas noch weiter in der Vergangenheit stattfindet, benutzt man das Past Perfect.

Du verwendest das Past Perfect mit folgenden Signalwörtern.

AFTER / BEFORE
He had had his breakfast BEFORE he packed his school bag.
AFTER he had had his breakfast, he packed his school bag.

SINCE / FOR
When I met them, they had lived in Italy for 10 years.
When I met them, they had lived in Italy since 2008.

WHEN, AS SOON AS, UNTIL
She went to the USA as soon as she had finished university.
